FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS URGED TO DREAM BIG

The Vice Chancellor of Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST), Prof. Aloys Mvuma, has underscored the need to dream big in order to achieve life goals. He made the remarks during the Vice Chancellor's Day to welcome first-year Students which was held at the Nyerere Hall in the University.

Prof. Mvuma said that as MUST Management they will do whatever it takes to make sure that students realize their dreams and become what they want to be and beyond. He emphasized that it is upon students to refine their goals and set their strategies to achieve their goals.

He also urged them to uphold their diligence and discipline in order to be able to achieve their goals. "Your success in life is in your own hands; discipline and hardwork is the bridge that connects goals and achievements", he added.

He reminded them to learn to manage their time well and refrain from sitting idling because it leads to indulging in bad things like excessive drinking of alcohol, using drugs, smoking and other bad habits.

He emphasized that at the beginning when they start their studies they should endeavour to excel in academics and other productive ventures such as participating in various clubs and recreational activities.

In addition, he congratulated the female students who were enrolled at the University and said that they have dared because scientific studies are usually wrongly perceived to be for men only.

The Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor responsible for Academics, Research and Consultancy, Prof. Godliving Mtui advised the students to make sure that they attend lectures and all academic activities at the University. At the same time, he urged instructors to encourage and teach in a manner that will make students understand and perform well in their examinations.

In addition, he insisted that students should read and understand the rules and regulations of the University in order to avoid imminent punishments.

He further advised students to make sure that they are in contact with their Academic Advisors.

Meanwhile, the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor responsible for Finance, Planning and Administration, Dr. John P. John said that his office is well organized to ensure that student’s welfare is taken care of throughout their stay at MUST, the University will continue to improve on adequacy and quality of infrastructure to facilitate the offering of better education.

Giving a word of thanks on behalf of the students, The President of MUST Student Organization (MUSTSO), Mr David Gordian, thanked the University Management for continuing to improve the infrastructure Management and urged the students to take good care of University properties. He also reminded fellow students to focus on their studies as it is the most important thing that brought them to the University.
