Dr. Alex W. Mwang’ande (PhD) is a Lecturer in the College of Engineering and Technology (CET) at Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST). He also serves as the Head of the Department of Geosciences and Mining Technology (since May 2023) and has previously held the role of Acting Head of the Department of Electrical and Power Engineering. 

Dr. Mwang’ande holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Oil and Gas Well Engineering from China University of Petroleum–East China (2020). His research interests focus on integrity failure of oil and gas well cements and the management of annulus pressure build-ups. He earned a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering (Drilling) from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway (2016), and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam (2010). 

He joined the then Mbeya Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in January 2011 as a Tutorial Assistant in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Following completion of his master’s studies, he transitioned to the Department of Geosciences and Mining Technology as an Assistant Lecturer, marking a shift in his academic specialization. 

With over fourteen years of experience in teaching, research, and postgraduate supervision across Mechanical Engineering, Energy, Geosciences, and Petroleum Engineering at MUST and UDSM, Dr. Mwang’ande has successfully supervised and examined numerous master’s dissertations and theses. He also has industry experience, having worked as a Mechanical Service Engineer at Mantrac (T) Ltd. 

Dr. Mwang’ande is deeply committed to academic leadership, research excellence, and service to the wider community. 

My name is Asson Sifueli Malisa Assistant Lecturer at Mbeya University of Science and Technology in the Department of Civil Engineering. I am current Acting Head of Civil Engineering Department. I holds B.Sc. in Engineering (Civil) from University of Dar es Salaam, a masters degree in Materials Science and Engineering (MaSE) from the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM - AIST). I am registered with Engineers Registration Board of Tanzania as Graduate Engineer. The main activities at Mbeya University of Science and Technology is Teaching, Research, and Consultancy. My area of interest is on properties of Civil Engineering Construction Materials. I have done several consultancy activities on Geotechnical Investigations, Civil Engineering Materials Testing, and Structural Intergrity of concrete structures for government, private and individual projects. I teach diploma and bachelor level students on courses related to civil engineering construction materials.

Mr Erasto academic and professional career can be traced back from his basic education at Msamala Primary School from 1983 to 1989 in Songea and received Certificate in Secondary Education in November 1993 at Mtwara Technical Secondary School where by he studied Mechanical Engineering majoring in Fitting and Turning, in November 1997 he received Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Mechanical Engineering at Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology. Also Mr Hebuka received Diploma in Technical Education in February 2008 at Klerruu Teachers College and Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering in January 2014 at Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology.

     Mr Hebuka was self-employed at SIDO Songea from January 1998 to December 2003 when he started teaching Motor Vehicle Mechanics at 842 KJ from December 2003 to June 2006.and he start teaching Technical subjects in Mechanical Engineering including Engineering Science at Mtwara Technical secondary School from April 2008 to November 2015, currently Mr Hebuka works with Mbeya University of Science and Technology since November 2015 as Tutorial Assistant. Mr Hebuka has been a coordinator of examinations from January 2018 to August 2020 in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at MUST also he has attended variety workshops and Training in development of Technical education in Tanzania within the country.

Eng. Godwin Elinazi Mnkeni is an Assistant Leacturer at Mbeya University of Science and Technology. He holds a Master's of Science in Power Systems and High Voltage from the University of Dar es Salaam, Postgraduate Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam, Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) and TANESCO Technician Diploma from TANESCO Technical Institute Kidatu. He has participated in several projects of Electrical Engineering Works such as construction of medium votage (33kV) lines, installation and rehabilitation of distribution transformers, construction of LV (400/230V) distribution lines, industrial and domestic electrical works. Eng. Godwin is registered by ERB and EWURA to carryout Electrical Engineering professional works, also is registered by NACTE as professional engaged in teaching. He has 16 years in teaching, reseach and consultancy works during MTC, Mbeya Institute of Science and Technology and MUST. His area of interst are Electrical Power  Engineering Works design, construction, installation and power quality control.

       My name is Hamisi M. Egari. I was born in 1990 at Bunda District in Mara Region. I was started primary education in 1998 up to 2004 at Nyabehu primary school in Mara Region. In 2005 i was be selected to join secondary education at Guta seccondary school in Mara Region up to 2008. In 2009 up to 2012 i was study Ordinary Diploma of Automotive Engineering At Arusha Technical College in Arusha.

The Electrical and Power Engineering (EPE) Department is one of the academic departments in the College of Engineering and Technology (CET) at Mbeya University of Science and Technology. The Department has a total of twenty-six (26) academic staff of which nine (09) are pursuing further studies. Presently, the Department offers two undergraduate academic programmes which are Ordinary Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Also, the Department offers one postgraduate academic programme of Masters of Engineering in Clean Energy Technology.

The Ordinary Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering is a programme of three (03) years while Bachelor Degree is a programme of four (04) years. Masters of Engineering in Clean Energy Technology is a programme of two (02) years.

Furthermore, the department conduct various short courses in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. These courses are normally advertised via MUST website. Apart from teaching, the academic staff from the department also participate in various research and consultancy activities.  The Consultancy activities are mainly implemented under MUST Consultancy Bureau (MCB).

Eng. Joseph Kilango Mnkeni is holding a Master degree in Highway Engineering attained from University of Dar es Salaam and he is now working as a lecturer and Acting Head of Civil Engineering Department at Mbeya University of Science and Technology in Tanzania. He is an experienced civil/Highway engineer with more than 20 years in his professional life.

He first worked as a Technician in the construction Industry for 2 years. He has been in teaching profession for 18 years at Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology and Mbeya University of Science and Technology, engaging himself in research, training and consultancy activities. His main experience is in Highway engineering, materials technology, techniques for maintenance and rehabilitation of civil engineering structures. Further his consultancy works involved feasibility studies, design of roads, assessment of highway materials, road maintenance, site supervision of construction works, and evaluation of road infrastructure.

He has developed several papers and reports and has accomplished more than 15 infrastructure projects, and educational projects. He has participated in developing and reviewing several Curriculums based on VETA, NACTE and TCU procedures for Civil Engineering modules. He has supervised more than 70 bachelor degree students’ projects. He is currently  participating  in research for monitoring of low volume roads Trial sections in Siha Kilimanjaro and Bagamoyo under Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA).

He is a registered engineer with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB). He speaks, reads and writes in Kiswahili and English.

He has published more six papers.

Mr. Kizito  A. Ngowi is an Instructor in the Department of Civil Engineering at MUST. He hold a Master of Science Degree in Geographical Information Systems awarded at University of Dar es Salaam Tanzania, (UDSM) and Bachelor of Science Degree awarded by Ardhi University Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Dr. Patrice Nyangi Mkono is a Lecturer in Structural Engineering and currently serves as the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering. In this role, he provides academic leadership, oversees curriculum development, and contributes to strategic planning within the department, while continuing to teach and mentor students in structural engineering. 

He holds a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), China. He also earned both a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from USTHB. 

Dr. Nyangi  is a registered Consulting Engineer with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) and serves as a Co-opted Expert to the Board, contributing technical expertise to professional engineering regulation and practice. Prior to his appointment as Head of Department, he served as the Acting Head of the Construction Services Department at MCB Company Limited, an affiliated company of MUST (2021 to May 2023). 

Dr. Nyangi has designed and supervised more than 20 engineering projects across various sectors. Academically, he has supervised over 30 undergraduate final-year projects and two Master’s theses to successful completion. 

His research output includes more than 14 peer-reviewed journal articles, six of which are indexed in SCI/SCIE journals. He serves as a reviewer for reputable Elsevier and Springer journals and has been appointed as an external examiner at the University of Dar es Salaam. 

Dr. Nyangi's research interests include Earthquake Engineering, seismic isolation of structures, inerter-based seismic protection systems, and structural materials, with a focus on enhancing the safety and resilience of built infrastructure in seismic regions.

Romanus Peter Lyanda is a Tutorial Assistant in the Department of Electrical and Power Engineering at Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) since August 2022. Prior to this appointment, he served as an Electrical Engineer II at the National Food Reserve Agency (Ministry of Agriculture) from March 2022 to August 2022, and as an Electrical Site Engineer at JUGUJA Smart Solution Ltd from September 2021 to March 2022.

Mr. Lyanda led the Design and Installation of an Automatic Power Factor Correction unit (APFC) on the SILO Complex Plant at the National Food Reserve Agency in 2022-2023, a consultancy project funded by the Ministry of Agriculture of Tanzania. As Site Engineer at JUGUJA Smart Solution Ltd, he executed surveying, planning, and construction of 11kV/0.4kV power distribution systems including transformer installation and line charging operations.

Mr. Lyanda joined the academic sector at MUST in 2022 were he has served as Examination Coordinator (2023-2025) and Timetable Coordinator (since 2023). He pursued a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Dar es Salaam from 2017 to 2021. Currently he is pursuing a Master of Engineering in Clean Energy Technology (2024-2026) at Mbeya University of Science and Technology.

Silla Livifile was born in Chalowe village by then in Iringa region (now Njombe) on 16/01/1975. Livifile had a very simple and happy childhood of pasturing catle. Finally was blessed to be in school life where travelled to amazing places and met with wonderful people, then finished my technical education.

Livifile is a mechanical and production engineer who teaches students at Mbeya University of Science and Technology and builds them to become economically and socially competent engineers. Before started teaching, Livifile spent eight (8) years as mechanical projects design engineer and technician working for food and beverage companies in Tanzania.

Mr. Vicent Marwa is Assistant Lecturer (AL) in Energy engineering with the Department of Energy and Production Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) at the Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST).

He completed his Master Degree in Energy Engineering at Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department in the College of Engineering and Technology at the University of Dar es Salaam and has attended various seminars, workshops and professional training. Mr. Marwa has performed his research on “Investigating of means of reducing Electricity consumption in the Tanzania iron and steel industries” in 2013.

Dr. Wambura Mwiryenyi Mwita is the Lecturer and current Head of Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Mbeya University of Science and Technology since May 2020.

He graduated with Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Johannesburg (UJ), South Africa in 2020. His PhD thesis was “Characterisation of titanium alloy processed by constrained bending and straightening severe plastic deformation” He received Master of Technology (MTech) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), South Africa in 2011. His Master thesis was “Development and testing of an intelligent hybrid polymeric composite beam with healing ability

embedded with Nickel-Titanium shape memory alloy”. He was awarded BSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from University of Dar es Salaam in 2001.  Prof. Zacharia Saimon Katambara is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and serves as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Planning, Finance and Administration. He has extensive academic leadership experience, having previously held senior positions including Principal of the College of Engineering and Technology, Acting Director of Quality Assurance, Head of Research and Publication, Institute Curriculum Coordinator, and Departmental Project Coordinator. 

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Water Resources Engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Water Resources Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. 

Prof. Katambara is a registered Consulting Civil Engineer, Environmental Impact Assessment Expert, and Environmental Audit Expert, accredited by the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) and the National Environmental Management Council (NEMC). He is a member of the Institution of Engineers Tanzania and several regional and continental professional networks, including the Federation of African Engineers Organisation (FAEO) Policy and Advocacy Committee, the East African Quality Assurance Network (EAQAN), and the East African Network of Learners, Administrators, and Researchers (EANLAR). 

His professional interests include water resources engineering, hydro-informatics, catchment modelling using metaheuristic optimisation approaches, agricultural water management, and hydrodynamics of hydraulic structures.
