Department of Human Resources

 

The human resources department handles a range of different functions within the University. The department is responsible for hiring, training workers, maintaining interoffice relationships and interpreting employment laws. The department works diligently behind the scenes to ensure University runs efficiently.

The department incorporates employment rules and regulations into University’s policies to ensure they sustain a productive work environment based on mutual respect and equal opportunity.

The role of department is not only to write policy and procedures and to hire but also to use strategic plans to ensure the right people(most qualified) are hired and trained for the right job at the right time.

 

The Department has the following functions:-

  • Carry out human resources planning and development;
  • Coordinate staff recruitment, selection, placement, confirmation, promotions and transfer activities;
  • Prepare Annual Personnel Emolument Estimates and administer salaries and payroll;
  • Coordinate the implementation of Open Performance Review and Appraisal System (OPRAS);
  • Administer employee’s benefits (pension, allowances etc) and entitlements;
  • Administer issues related to retirement and resignation/termination from the service);
  • Identify new special skills that may be needed in the short-term and long term; and
  • Administer with disciplinary issues for University employees;

 

  • Interpret Public Service Regulations; Standing Orders and other Labour laws;
  • Ensures usage and safety of documents and files in the Registry;
  • Supervise and coordinate overall administrative operations;
  • Deals with staff welfare matters such as sports and games, canteen, burial services, HIV/ AIDS;
  • Track and record of customer complains
