Entry 1: The entry requirements for the candidates applying for Diploma in Laboratory Science and Technology shall be possession of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with a minimum “D” pass in at least four (4) non-Religious subjects which must be Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology

OR

Entry 2: Possession of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) from Technical Secondary Schools with a minimum “D” pass in at least four (4) non- Religious subjects, Mathematics, Engineering Science, Chemistry and Biology.

OR

Entry 3: Possession of Trade Test Grade I / NVA Level III issued by VETA and Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with a minimum “D” pass in at least four (4) non-Religious subjects, two (2) of which must be among the following: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology.

The graduates of this program should be able to:

• To acquire broad knowledge base of Science and Laboratory Technology Apply knowledge of Food Science and Technology especially in the fields of Food Microbiology, food Engineering and Processing, Food Chemistry and Biochemistry, Nutrition and Sensory analysis
• To grasp knowledge of science and laboratory technology especially in the field of chemistry, biology and physics
• Understand the provisional nature of the knowledge related with laboratory science and technological change in accordance to current development.
• Wide range of specialized skills to practice routine principles of enquiry and /or research in the areas of biology, chemistry, physics and other related fields
• A well-developed skill for the gathering, evaluation, analysis and presentation of information, ideas, concepts, qualitative and quantitative data on a wide range of scientific problems related to laboratory science and technology. This will include familiarity and competence in the use of routine materials, practices, and advanced skills in laboratory science and technology.
• Use knowledge and skills in dealing with laboratory works
• Work alone or with others within general guidelines or functions under supervision in laboratory science disciplines.
• Communicate results

Assessment of this programme shall consists of a variety of forms including, written examinations, coursework and practical assessments. In order to proceed to subsequent years of the course students must satisfactorily complete all courses. Students shall be given, at the beginning of their programme of study, a copy of the following assessment regulations, in the assessment plan;

• Test and end of semester examinations: The number, composition, nature, date and time of these shall be specified.
• Programme Assignments: The specification and date of submission shall be stated.
• Laboratory and workshop practical: The number, composition, nature, date and time of these shall be specified.
• Assessment shall include at least two timed test under examination conditions and homework exercises in a specific semester. The weight of such Continuous Assessment in every course shall be 40% and Semester Examination shall be 60%, unless otherwise stated as stipulated in the curriculum for a given course.
