Department of Mathematics & Statistics
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is one of the constituent departments within the College of Science and Technical Education (CoSTE) at Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST). It was established following the approval of the MUST reformation during the 18th and 19th University Council meetings, held on July 16 and August 26, 2019, respectively. The department serves as a critical intellectual hub for quantitative inquiry and technical advancement. By offering specialized programs, such as the Diploma in Applied Statistics and the Master of Science in Applied Mathematics, the department equips students and scholars with the analytical tools necessary to navigate an increasingly data driven world. These programs are designed to bridge the gap between abstract theoretical frameworks such as those found in calculus, algebra, and probability theory and the practical demands of modern engineering, economics, and scientific research.
