Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) has officially handed over a road construction contract worth approximately TZS 1.083 billion to Roadlight Group Ltd., a Mbeya-based company. The project covers an 850-metre internal road and 12 km of road along the University's boundaries at the Campus, and it is scheduled for completion within five (5) months.
The internal road runs from the main gate to the new female students' hostels and connect to the Academic Block. The project is part of the University's wider effort to modernise its infrastructure and improve movement within the campus. It will also give the campus an environment befitting a university of science and technology.
Speaking at the handover meeting, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Finance and Administration), Prof. Zacharia Katambara, who chaired the meeting, called on the contractor to meet the quality standards and timelines set out in the contract. He said full compliance with the contract was essential to give the University a high-quality and durable road.
The Director of Roadlight Group Ltd., Eng. Salvatory Kavishe, assured the University that the company would carry out the work to the required standards and within the agreed timeframe. He also asked the University to release the advance payment on time so that the company can buy materials and start work as early as possible.
The project is not only an investment in gravel and asphalt. It is an investment in the productivity, health and well-being of the MUST community, and it will let academic and administrative activities run without infrastructure-related disruptions. Once completed, the road is expected to make transport on campus more efficient and improve access to different parts of the University.
