Leading Centre of Excellence for Knowledge, Skills, and Applied Education in Science and Technology
Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) has taken a significant step towards improving the management of its assets through a five-day training on the Government Assets Management System (GAMIS), held from Friday, 19th June to Tuesday, 23rd June 2026.
The training brought together staff from the Directorate of Finance, Planning, Estate Management, and the Procurement Unit, along with two facilitators from the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Saidi Mtatula and Mr. Simon Njoka. The main purpose was to strengthen staff capacity in using GAMIS for effective asset management within the university.
Unlike ordinary workshops, the training was highly practical, with participants working directly on the GAMIS platform. They engaged in real tasks such as asset verification, barcode labelling, and asset disposal procedures. This hands-on approach helped staff better understand and address long-standing challenges in managing university assets.

The facilitators from the Ministry of Finance were commended for their strong commitment throughout the training. They remained fully engaged even over the weekend, ensuring that all participants received proper guidance and that all questions were adequately addressed.
At the close of the training, Vice Chancellor Prof. Aloys N. Mvuma expressed appreciation to the facilitators for their dedication and extended gratitude on behalf of the university. He also urged participants to apply the knowledge gained in their daily work, stressing that the real value of training lies in its practical implementation.
Prof. Mvuma noted that the training comes at a crucial time as the university works to complete its asset disposal exercise and close the 2025/2026 financial year. He emphasised the importance of accurate use of GAMIS in asset verification, barcode assignment, and updating the national asset register in line with government requirements.

The training is expected to enhance efficiency and accountability in asset management at MUST, positioning the institution to complete its financial year processes more effectively and in compliance with public sector standards.
