Welcome to the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) - Rukwa Campus College (MRCC). The Department’s core function is to provide quality teaching, research and consultancy in the field of Mechanical Engineering. The Department also conducts various short courses and services in the fields of Mechanical Engineering and Agro processing industries.
1. Teaching
Currently the Department offers the following programs:
• Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
However in the near future the Department will offer more programs in the fields of Automotive and Auto-electric Engineering, Agricultural Mechanization Engineering, Industrial Engineering etc.
2. Research and Consultancy Activities
The Department offers Research and Consultancy services in areas that include:
• Design and development of various machines;
• Biogas Technology;
• Industrial Maintenance and Management;
• Refrigeration and Air Conditioning;
• Industrial Energy Management;
• Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems and
• Agro-machinery and equipment.
3. Short Courses
The Short Courses offered by the Department include:
• Welding and metal fabrications;
• Refrigeration and Air Conditioning;
• Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection;
• Motor vehicle Driving;
• Maintenance Planning and Scheduling;
• Industrial Supervisory Skills;
• Hydraulic and Pneumatic maintenance;
• Industrial Safety and Occupational Health;
• Industrial management skills;
• Programmable Logic Control (PLC) and
• AutoCAD and SolidWorks programs applications.
4. Services
The Department offers services in the following areas:
• Repair and Maintenance of Agro-machines and Equipment;
• Repair and Maintenance of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning;
• Boilers maintenance and
• Motor vehicle servicing and troubleshooting diagnosis.
Programmes Offered
1. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (3 years )
Entry Qualifications
Possession of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with a pass in at least four (4) Nonreligious subjects, three of which must be Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
OR
Possession of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) from Technical Secondary Schools with a pass in at least four (4) non- Religious subjects, three of which must be Mathematics, Engineering Science, Chemistry and any one of the following subjects: Architectural Drafting/Building Construction, Electrical Engineering Science/Electrical Drafting, Workshop Technology/Mechanical Drafting.
OR
Possession of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with a pass in at least four (4) non-Religious subjects, two must be among the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with possession of TRADE TEST GRADE I / NVA LEVEL III issued by VETA.
2. Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (4 years)
Entry Qualifications
Two principal passes of at least “D” grade at Advanced Level in Mathematics and Physics. Those without at least an “E” grade in Chemistry at A-Level must have a Credit at O-Level

Holders of Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6) in Mechanical or Automotive or Automobile or Mechatronics Engineering, with an average of B or GPA of 3.0 OR Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Mechanical or Automotive or Automobile or Mechatronics Engineering, with an average of C
