I. About the Programme

The Department of Technical Education (DTE) is one among the six departments found in the College of Science and Technical Education (CoSTE). The core function of the department as devolution from the university functions is to teach, conduct research and consultancy. Currently, the Department offers nine programmes comprising diploma, postgraduate diploma and bachelor degree programmes. The department is under the College of Science and Technical Education (CoSTE) in Mbeya University of Science and Technology.

II. Description of the Programmes Offered in the Department

  1. Diploma programmes:
  2. Diploma of Technical Education in Civil Engineering;
  3. Diploma of Technical Education in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Diploma of Technical Education in Architectural Engineering; and 
  1. Diploma of Technical Education in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
  2. Bachelor programmes:
  3. Bachelor of Technical Education in Civil Engineering;
  4. Bachelor of Technical Education in Mechanical Engineering:
  • Bachelor of Technical Education in Architectural Engineering; and
  1. Bachelor of Technical Education in Electrical and electronics Engineering.
  2. Postgraduate Diploma in Technical education

III. General Entry Requirements:

  1. For Bachelor programmes:

The candidates applying for Bachelor of technical Education in Civil  or Mechanical  or Architectural  or Electrical and electronics Engineering,  Should posses the advanced Certificates of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least two (2) principal pases (D and above) of a minimum of 4.0 points in Physics and Mathematics or Chemistry or Geography.

OR

Holder of Ordinary Diploma (NTA level 6) in Civil, Mechanical, Architectural and/or Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

OR

Holder of diploma of technical education in Mechanical, Civil, or electrical and electronic engineering or diploma of technical education in architectural technology for a Bachelor of technical education in Architecture and technology.

  1. For Diploma Programmes:

The candidate applying for Diploma of Technical Education in Civil, Mechanical, Architectural and Electrical and Electronics Engineering should possess Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with a pass in at least four (4) nonreligious subjects, three of which must be Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

OR

Possession of Certificate in Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) from Technical Secondary School with a pass in at least four (4) non-religious subjects, three of which must be Mathematics, Engineering Science, Chemistry and /or Architectural Drafting, Building Construction, Electrical Engineering Science/Electrical Drafting, Workshop Technology/ Mechanical Drafting.

OR

Possession of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with a pass in at least four (4) non-religious subjects, two must be among the following; Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry also with possession of TRADE TEST GRADE I/NVA LEVEL III issued by VETA

  1. For postgraduate diploma

Postgraduate Diploma in Technical Education programme requires a possession of the following academic qualifications:  Bachelor’s Degree or an Advanced Diploma in Technical fields: Architecture Technology, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering, Environmental Engineering Mechanical, Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mining Engineering, Irrigation Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Water Resource and Sanitation Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution of higher learning. Candidates with equivalent qualifications must also possess at least Secondary School Certificate with passes in Mathematics, Physics/Engineering Science and Chemistry.
