Department of Information Systems and Technology

Department of Information System and Technology (IST) is one of the academic departments in the College of Engineering and Technology (CET)-MUST. The Department has a total of seventeen (10) academic staff of which four (04) are pursuing further studies in and outside the country. Currently, the department offers three academic programmes. The programmes include Master of Science in Information Technology (MSc- IT), Bachelor of Science in Information and Communication Technology (BSc-ICT), and Diploma in Information and Communication Technology. All programs are currently offered on a full-time basis. However, evening classes are also offered. The department also offers various short courses as stipulated in the link. Click to view.                    Master of Science in Information Technology (MSc-IT)

                   Bachelor of Science in Information and Communication Technology (BSc-ICT)

                   Diploma in Information and Communication Technology (Dip-ICT)

 

Program details:

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (MSc-IT)

This is Two (2) years program conducted by Course work under the department of Information System and Technology (IST).

Entry Requirements/Qualification

Entry 1: The entry requirements for the candidates applying for Master of Science in Information Technology should possess any Bachelor degree with Computer subject with a GPA not less than 2.7

Entry 2: Holders of postgraduate diploma with IT subject with an average of B+ or GPA not less than 4.0

 

BACHELOR OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (BICT)

Entry Requirements / Qualification

Admission requirements to the BICT programmes are guided by the general and specific admission requirements for undergraduate studies of MUST. The entry qualifications are intended to ensure that each student has appropriate academic qualifications, sufficient work experience, and the necessary motivation to benefit from, actively contribute to, and successfully complete the programme. In general, there are two categories applicable for admission; direct and equivalent qualification as explained hereunder.

 

  • Direct Qualifications

For form VI applicants who have completed their A level studies before 2014 and from 2016 the minimum entry, qualification is two Principal Level passes with a total of at least 4.0 points in Physics, Mathematics, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, and Economics

For Form VI applicants who have completed their A level studies in 2014 and 2015, their minimum entry qualifications are two Principal passes (Two Cs) with a total of 6.0 points in Physics, Mathematics, Geography, Biology, Chemistry and Economics

  • Equivalent Qualifications

Appropriate Diploma with at least four O'-level passes (Ds and above) or NVA Level III with less than four ‘O’ level passes or equivalent foreign qualifications as established by either NECTA or VETA; and 

    • Diploma (NTA Level 6) in Computer Engineering/Science or Information and Communication Technology (ICT) or Electrical and Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering respectively, all with an average of B or GPA of 3.0 and possession of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with a pass in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. OR
    • Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Computer Engineering/Science or Information and Communication Technology (ICT) or Electrical and Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering respectively, all with an average of B and possession of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with a pass in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry
    • Foundation Course: Two principal passes of at least “B” grade in Mathematics and Physics and minimum GPA of 3.0 in the Foundation Course and must have a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with a pass in at least four (4) non-religious subjects, three of which must be Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry/Geography.

 

DIPLOMA IN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

Entry Requirements/Qualification

This programme is open to candidates with Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with a minimum pass in at least four (4) non-religious subjects, three of which must be; Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.

OR

Possession of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) from Technical Secondary Schools with a pass in at least four (4) non-religious subjects, three of which must be Mathematics, Engineering Science, Chemistry and any one of the following subjects: Architectural Drafting/Building Construction, Electrical Engineering Science/Electrical Drafting, Workshop Technology/ Mechanical Drafting.
OR

Possession of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with a pass in at least four (4) non-religious subjects, two must be among the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with possession of TRADE TEST GRADE I / NTA LEVEL III issued by VETA
