WELCOME

Geosciences and Mining Technology Department (GMT) is a department under College of Engineering and Technology (CET) at Mbeya University of Science and Technology. It is responsible for training and production of Technicians and Engineers who are well disciplined in the conservation, management, development and proper use of the mineral and energy resources including those in reservations and lands of the country and elsewhere.

ACADEMICS

Education is taken seriously, and has excellent teaching facilities and Laboratory with access to some of the best field sites in Archean Tectonic Domain (eg.Dodoman Super group, Nyanzian Super group, Kavirondian Super group and Granite gneiss), Proterozoic Tectonic Domain (eg. Ubendian Super group, Usagaran Super group, Karagwe Ankolean Super group, Bukoban Super group, Karoo Super group and Upper Mesozoic) and Cenozoic Tectoni Domain (eg. Rift valley faulting, Sedimentary rocks, Igneous rocks and Surficial Deposits)

 PROGRAMMES OFFERED

With the recent reforms, the department is new, thus is only conducting Diploma in Mining Engineering programme. However in the near future the department is preparing and expecting to run diploma in Oil and Gas engineering, Bachelor of Mining Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Geology, Mineral Processing, etc.

RESEARCH AND CONSULTANCY

The department, Staff and students work in a number of fundamental and applied areas important to earth, energy, Exploration and environment that include mineral and energy resources.
