The Department of Entrepreneurship and Business Management (DEBM) is one of the two Departments under the Center of Innovation and Technology Transfer (CITT) at Mbeya University of Science and Technology. Under the umbrella of entrepreneurship and business management, DEBM is vested with the responsibility of creating and maintaining entrepreneurial and managerial thinking abilities to students, staff and all Tanzanians at large. Innovatively, the department’s beneficiaries are technically and skillfully enabled to materialize/actualize their dreamed ideas into commercial outputs.  The essence of the department is to boost and promote business-idea actualization among University graduates and students.

In order for the DEBM to execute and achieve its intended objectives, it has innovatively molded knowledge creating and dispensing units namely; Entrepreneurship Club and Business Management Heart. The working scope of these functional units is; to conduct training, research and consultancy in the focused areas of entrepreneurship and business management. The DEBM has constantly and favorably assured itself that it offers a reliable creative atmosphere as the basis for blossoming new entrepreneurial ideas and business management skills through training, research and consultancy.

Broadly, the vehicles available in DEBM world are mentoring of entrepreneurial ideas, business management training, development of business plan of innovations, marketing and advertising of innovated  products, provision of financial and management knowledge, world-wide liaising with experts in innovation and technology transfer, creation of awareness on intellectual property rights, technology evaluation, promotion of Intellectual Property Rights, mechanism that allows academic staff/graduates/individuals to convert their research outputs or business ideas to commercial companies, attraction of investment in innovation and commercialization of research results by creating funding mechanisms, developing and maintaining of proper students-staff welfare programs and other related and complementary functions of the department.

Understanding and believing in the power of unit, DEBM is effectively and efficiently working and collaborating hand in hand with different local and international stakeholders at the both levels of individuals of groups. The achievement of objectives being essence of the department existence, the department is warmly embracing all key players in the arena of entrepreneurship and business management such as business investors, companies, Government Institutions, Non-Government Organization, Civil Society Groups, Development Partners, Learning Institutions and all Complimentary Service Providers.

In collaboration with all interested business players; DEBM is aiming at reducing unemployment level of the University students and graduates by providing them entrepreneurial and business managerial knowledge and skills as part of boosting and greasing their innovations. In other words, the department aims at reducing or minimizing the succumbing to the idea of graduates being employed.
